17 innovative interventions successfully implemented across six European countries

The INCLUSION project has come to an end. A total of 17 innovative interventions have been implemented in a range of different transport environments, distinct socio-economic contexts, cultural and geographical conditions. A large variety of vulnerable user categories; among which, the elderly, mobility-impaired, people with a migrant background, teens, and low-income individuals, were able to benefit from a range of different innovative solutions tested in the identified prioritised areas. Several activities were performed to identify gaps and unmet needs and improve the understanding of the vulnerable users’ requirements: training courses to public transport staff, co-design activities, workshops and focus groups, and face-to-face meetings with the target users’ direct involvement, helped to fine-tune the pilot measures.

Although the 2020 pandemic constraints forced some of the planned activities to be reshaped, all sites successfully implemented real-life interventions, including:

  • re-organisation of public transport routes, improvement of multi-modal connections, interventions for improving cycle paths;
  • development of crowdsourcing platforms to collect user feedback, enhancement of information-mobility App, ITS implementation to improve users’ information, MaaS platform;
  • encouraging active modes such as e-bike, promoting public transport and shared mobility through incentives, enhancing peer to peer ridesharing.

The last months of the project involved all sites engaging in a thorough impact and process evaluation assessment that helped to understand which measures were more successful than others and why. In the latest project activities, success stories and lessons learnt have been collected in the specific publications; all available online here.
